A heavy downpour pounded Ho Chi Minh City on Friday afternoon, turning many downtown streets including Calmette, Nguyen Thai Binh, and Le Loi Boulevard into rivers and making life tougher for commuters.
The downpour began coming down on various parts of the city at around 3:00 pm.
By some 4:30 pm, these inner-city streets and those in the neighborhood resembled rivers.
The rainwater on some sections of Le Loi Boulevard, one of the major business and shopping streets in the southern metropolis, reached almost one meter deep, stalling scores of vehicles.
In Thu Duc City under the jurisdiction of Ho Chi Minh City, Le Van Viet Street and neighboring roads also endured severe flooding after 15 minutes of rainfall, adding that many motorbikes broke down and road users fell onto the street due to swift-moving rainwater.
Similarly, heavy rainfall swamped the walkway and the motorcycle lane at the Tan Tao tunnel area in Binh Tan District, with lots of plastic garbage floating on the flooded walkway.
