-- According to research by Bain & Company, GenZero, Standard Chartered Bank, and Temasek, Vietnam has the highest proportion of motorbikes and mopeds among all passenger vehicles in Southeast Asia, making up 96 percent of the total vehicle share. The remaining four percent consists of cars.

-- A woman who attempted to sell water apples to a foreign man at VND200,000 (US$7.9) per kilogram in Hanoi was fined VND150,000 ($5.9) for peddling on roadbeds, local police said on Monday.

-- A patrol team from the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security’s Traffic Police Department said on Monday that it had seized a 16-seater passenger car as the driver steered it in the wrong direction on an expressway section in Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam on Sunday. He faces a fine of VND17 million ($667.6) and a driver’s license suspension for six months.

-- The Mekong Delta region is estimated to lose 300-500 hectares of land to riverbank subsidence and tens of thousands of local households would have to move out of areas at risk of land collapse per year, according to a report delivered at a conference in Vietnam’s southernmost province of Ca Mau on Monday.

-- Authorities in Bac Kan Province, northern Vietnam said on Monday that they had rescued a man from a cave that collapsed on Sunday but had yet to identify the location of another man who was believed to be trapped inside. At the time of the collapse, one man escaped from the cave himself.

Business

-- Revenue of the real estate sector in Ho Chi Minh City reached VND123.9 trillion ($4.9 billion) in the first half of this year, up 6.1 percent year on year, the municipal statistics agency reported.

-- Ho Chi Minh City’s economy is recovering despite hindrances to its gross regional domestic product in the first half of this year, expanding 6.46 percent year on year, according to a report by the municipal statistics agency.

Lifestyle

-- Vietnamese artists Hien Phuoc and Thanh Hoa won the Grand Prix prize, the highest award at the International Circus Festival held in Russia from June 27 to 30 for their circus act titled ‘Moment of Love.' The festival this year gathered nearly 100 artists from 12 countries and territories.
