Doctors at the Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital 1 managed to save a seven-year-old girl suffering a cardiac arrest for 60 minutes without leaving any after-effects.
Associate Professor Pham Van Quang, head of the intensive care and poison control department at the Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital 1, said on Thursday that the patient was B.H.D.D., residing in Long An Province, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City.
She was diagnosed with cardiogenic shock, acute heart failure, fulminant myocarditis, severe pneumonia, and sepsis.
The child was hospitalized on June 17 as she had symptoms of stomachache and vomiting for three days.
She then quickly developed pale lips, a light pulse and showed signs of cardiogenic shock, arrhythmia, and then cardiac arrest.
She immediately received intensive treatment.
After being put on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for eight days and given heart support and antiarrhythmic drugs as well as continuous dialysis, the patient has recovered and is expected to be discharged from hospital next week.
