A travel company in Hue, the capital city of Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam, was found to have used an image of China’s Forbidden City in a poster to introduce a tour to the Vietnamese city and noted it as Dai Noi Hue (Hue Imperial City).
Nguyen Van Phuc, director of the Thua Thien-Hue Department of Tourism, said on Monday that the department had required its inspectors to investigate the case to prevent recurrences and an impact on Hue’s tourism.
The poster featuring a series of famed destinations in Hue, such as Hue Imperial City, an incense-making village, Minh Mang Tomb, and Thien Mu Pagoda, has surfaced on social media in Vietnam in recent times.
Reportedly, a tour guide from Hoang Thanh Travel Company, based in Hue City, designed and uploaded it to social networking sites.
Netizens criticized the company for its limited knowledge of local history.
A representative of Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that it already worked with Hoang Thanh Travel Company on the case.
They claimed that the mistake was made solely by the tour guide, who later admitted it, removed the poster, and committed himself to being more careful in the future.
