-- Eleven crew members of a Vietnamese fishing ship have returned to their homeland after being jailed in neighboring Cambodia for 55 days on reported charges of illegal border crossing, a Vietnamese official said on Monday. 

-- Japanese rescue forces on Monday saved two Vietnamese women who sent a distress signal while climbing Mount Biei, located in Japan’s northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido, on Sunday as they got exhausted.

-- The Hanoi People’s Court on Monday handed down a six-year jail term on a Vietnamese-Taiwanese woman for smuggling gold worth nearly VND1 billion (US$39,151) from Taiwan to Vietnam.

-- Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam will see its annual capacity increase to 13 million passengers by 2030 and 18 million by 2050 from the current two million, according to the airport planning that Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang has approved.

-- All nine pedestrian bridges connecting elevated stations along the first metro line in Ho Chi Minh City are projected to be completed by September this year, the municipal Management Authority for Urban Railways reported on Monday.

-- Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast on Monday broke ground on its EV assembly plant in Subang, West Java, Indonesia. The plant represents an initial investment of around $200 million and will have an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles.

-- Vietnamese carrier Pacific Airlines has received the second aircraft among the three aircraft it sought to lease from national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines for operations this summer, a Pacific Airlines leader told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Monday.

-- Hoi An, a famed tourist city in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam, was ranked fourth on a list of the world’s 25 best cities in 2024 compiled by American travel magazine Travel + Leisure.

-- “Apple's shares rose 2.5% to a record high on Monday after Morgan Stanley raised its price target on the iPhone maker's shares and designated the stock as a 'top pick,' citing the company's AI efforts as a boost to device sales,” according to Reuters.
