Intense rainfall and landslides in northern Vietnam from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning left six people dead and one missing, as well as caused traffic disruptions to many roads in the region.
In Thai Nguyen Province, Mong Thi Q., a 25-year-old resident of Dinh Hoa District, died after being swept away by floodwaters while she was on the way to work.
Some locales of Dinh Hoa such as Cho Chu Town, Trung Hoi, and Phuong Tien Communes experienced severe flooding due to excessive rain on Tuesday evening.
A local police agency confirmed that a National Highway 3C section passing through Dinh Hoa’s Quy Ky Commune was hit by landslides on Wednesday morning, making the route impassable.
A portion of the Ho Chi Minh Highway in Dinh Hoa’s Tan Duong Commune was not passable either because of flooding.

The extreme weather conditions claimed the lives of two residents in Dien Bien Province, including 40-year-old Trang Thi T. in Tua Chua District who was killed in a landslide and Nguyen Anh Tuan from Muong Cha District who died after being swept away by floodwaters.
Heavy precipitation wreaked havoc on dozens of homes and roads in Dien Bien, with 35 homes hit by flooding and landslides, 17 homes requiring emergency evacuation, and 16 roads struck by landslides.
At 5:00 pm on Tuesday, a man and his child in Ha Giang Province were crushed to death on the spot by a massive rockfall when they were on the way home from work.
In Bac Kan Province, torrential rain and landslides took a heavy toll on several national highway sections and 15 homes, as well as buried two commuters who were later rescued by some passers-by.

A report released by the Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention and Control, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, showed that downpours and floods left one person dead in Bac Giang Province and one missing in Son La Province.
The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting said that rainfall of 30-60mm may persist in the northwestern part of the country until Friday.
The national weather agency warned of potential flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and inundation in low-lying and urban locations of northern Vietnam.
