Intense rainfall and landslides in northern Vietnam from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning left six people dead and one missing, as well as caused traffic disruptions to many roads in the region.

In Thai Nguyen Province, Mong Thi Q., a 25-year-old resident of Dinh Hoa District, died after being swept away by floodwaters while she was on the way to work.

Some locales of Dinh Hoa such as Cho Chu Town, Trung Hoi, and Phuong Tien Communes experienced severe flooding due to excessive rain on Tuesday evening.

A local police agency confirmed that a National Highway 3C section passing through Dinh Hoa’s Quy Ky Commune was hit by landslides on Wednesday morning, making the route impassable.

A portion of the Ho Chi Minh Highway in Dinh Hoa’s Tan Duong Commune was not passable either because of flooding.

At 5:00 pm on Tuesday, a man and his child in Ha Giang Province were crushed to death on the spot by a massive rockfall when they were on the way home from work.
