Two Chinese suspects were arrested nearly 10 hours after they broke into a villa in Ho Chi Minh City and took away many valuable assets, including Rolex watches and an LV handbag, local police reported.
Police in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City on Friday said they had detained Chen Dao Hong, 45, and Nguy Vinh Diem, 39, both having Chinese nationality, on charges of theft.
At around 10:00 am on July 25, police in Tan Phong Ward received a report from a local woman, N.T.B.T., about a burglary that had occurred in a villa on Hung Thai Street.
T. informed investigators that she had been authorized to contact police officers by the villa's owner, who was traveling abroad at the time of the incident.
According to T., the stolen assets included three Rolex watches, a gold bracelet with diamonds, four gold rings also with diamonds, an LV handbag, and various amounts of money: US$2,000, AUD3,000 ($1,950), 3,000 Japanese yen ($20), and VND210 million ($8,410).
The theft was reported to the district police, who then conducted a joint investigation.
After examining the scene, gathering relevant information, and searching for suspects, local police detained the two Chinese at around 7:30 pm on the same day, nearly ten hours after the theft occurred.
The detainees admitted to arriving in the villa area by car and breaking into the residence to commit the theft.
The district police recovered all the stolen assets and the car used in the crime.
