A tunnel at the intersection of Phan Thuc Duyen and Tran Quoc Hoan Streets in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City is scheduled to open to traffic on Saturday, promising to ease traffic congestion in the Tan Son Nhat International Airport area.
Dozens of employees were speeding up work on the final components of the tunnel project at the construction site on Friday, including painting lines, paving the surface of the tunnel, and installing lights, according to a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporter’s observation.
The tunnel project, which measures 400 meters in length, nine meters in width, and has two lanes, comes with a total investment of VND200 billion (US$8 million).
This tunnel is part of a larger project to construct a four-kilometer road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa Streets in Tan Binh District, which began in late 2022.
The entire road project is estimated to cost VND4.8 trillion (US$190 million) and is scheduled for completion in late 2024.

Luong Minh Phuc, head of the Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City and the project's investor, announced that work on the tunnel is 99 percent complete and that it will officially open on Saturday.
Phuc also noted that flowering trees and plants have been grown in the median strip at one end of the tunnel near Thang Long Street, adding a touch of beauty to the tunnel area.
