The administration of Dong Nai Province, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City, has recently held a meeting with relevant units to discuss the execution of the first phase of the Dau Giay - Tan Phu Expressway, which is slated to span 60.2 kilometers and carry an estimated price tag of VND9 trillion (US$356 million).

At the working session, a representative of the Thang Long Project Management Board said the Ministry of Transport had approved the first phase of the expressway project, which would be conducted under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

A tender to choose an investor for the project is expected to be completed in December of this year.

The expressway is planned to pass through four districts in Dong Nai, including Thong Nhat, Xuan Loc, Dinh Quan, and Tan Phu.

The project will start at the ending point of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway in Thong Nhat District, end at an intersection with National Highway 20, and connect to the Tan Phu - Bao Loc Expressway in Tan Phu District.

Some 378 hectares of land will be cleared for the project.

The representative of the Thang Long Project Management Board suggested that the Dong Nai administration task relevant departments, agencies, and districts with supporting the project’s execution, especially its site clearance.

Vice-chairwoman of the Dong Nai People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang asked the four districts affected by the construction of the Dau Giay - Tan Phu Expressway to submit data concerning the project’s impact on local households to the provincial Department of Planning and Investment prior to September 12.

The Department of Planning and Investment will later summarize the data and propose the provincial government approve the site clearance subproject.

Hoang also requested that the districts enhance their management of the planned site to prevent illegal construction.

On July 30, the Ministry of Transport passed the first phase of the Dau Giay - Tan Phu Expressway project.

The expressway will initially have four lanes with a width of 17 meters, but without emergency lanes.

Later, the project will expand to a width of 24 meters, with four lanes and emergency lanes.

Of the total estimated investment of nearly VND9 trillion, VND7.7 trillion ($305.9 million) will be raised by the investor, while VND1.3 trillion ($50.1 million) will come from the state budget.

The expressway will include a rest stop on each side, with the site clearance cost for these rest stops included in the overall project investment.

Once completed, the expressway will meet local transport demands, ease pressure on National Highway 20, and improve traffic safety.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026 and operational by 2027.
