Crew members rapidly responded and successfully handled a technical error, while being able to ensure the safety of passengers on board a plane flying from Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam to Hanoi on Tuesday.

Some 30 minutes after the aircraft took off, it returned and touched down at Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province.

Several clips of the shaking plane and panicked passengers went viral on Vietnamese social media on Wednesday.

Oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling just a few minutes after the shaking began and passengers were asked to wear the masks and fasten their seat belts.

Flight attendants also reassured passengers that everything would be OK.

A representative of Cam Ranh International Airport told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday that flight VJ776 departed from the airport at 9:45 am for Hanoi.

About 30 minutes later, while flying over Quy Nhon City in Binh Dinh Province, the crew reported a technical problem and asked for permission to return to the airport.

No passengers sustained injury.

The representative said a faulty pressure regulator affected the balance of oxygen levels in the plane.

The crew intended to land at Da Nang International Airport in Da Nang City. However, they decided to return to Cam Ranh as the plane was still near its embarkation point.

After making an emergency landing, the plane was checked and all passengers were evacuated to another aircraft to continue their flight.

Most of the passengers agreed to fly on aircraft VNA685 at 1:30 pm on the same day.

Others asked to have their ticket refunded or to be able to keep their ticket for a later date.

A representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam confirmed to Tuoi Tre that the plane destined for Hanoi from Cam Ranh faced a technical error.

The pressure regulator does not affect the plane’s safety system.

Its functions are providing oxygen in a plane and balancing pressure.

When the pressure regulator functions improperly, oxygen masks drop for passengers.

Low-cost air carrier Vietjet reported the incident to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, which then set up a team to assess the cause of the mishap.
