Heavy rainfall and water released from reservoirs flooded parts of Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam on Sunday evening, with rapidly rising floodwaters forcing residents to rush to protect their belongings late into the night.
According to the south-central hydrometeorological agency, flood levels on the Cai River in Nha Trang rose rapidly on Sunday afternoon, and water levels reached 9.49 meters at Dong Trang Station and 5.57 meters at Dien Phu Station by 5:00 pm.
Between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, low-lying areas in suburban Nha Trang such as the communes of Vinh Thanh, Vinh Trung, and Vinh Phuong were submerged under 0.5-1 meter of water.
At around 9:00 pm, October 23 Street was heavily inundated due to an onrush of water from the upstream.

Despite earlier warnings from authorities, many residents felt unprepared for the sudden rise in water levels.
Tran Thi Vy, a 48-year-old resident of Vinh Thanh, recounted her inability to move her refrigerator and some household items to safety, as the water rose too quickly. Her family had to stay on the mezzanine, waiting for the flood to recede.
In Vinh Trung, 52-year-old Le Van Linh experienced a similar ordeal.
Linh elaborated that the water flooded his kitchen and wardrobe, prompting his family to stay up all night to deal with the inundation.
To ensure dam safety, the provincial administration ordered controlled releases from five reservoirs, including Suoi Dau, Dac Loc, Am Chua, Ta Ruc, and Da Den, with flows of 15-90 cubic meters per second.
