Authorities in Binh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam have issued VND432 million (US$17,370) worth of administrative fines upon a local company for operating pig farms that flouted environmental regulations.
The company, named Lang Viet Nam, is located in Ham Thuan Bac District.
Its hi-tech pig farm in the district’s Hong Son Commune was penalized for failing to comply with environmental permit conditions.
This farm also discharged wastewater with contaminants exceeding regulatory limits by more than ten times.
The company’s other pig farm in Ham Duc Commune committed similar violations.
Therefore, local authorities decided to slap a fine of VND282 million ($11,340) on the hi-tech farm in Hong Son and another fine of VND150 million ($6,030) on the farm in Ham Duc.
Aside from having to pay the fines, the company was required to take immediate action to address environmental pollution and report the outcome to the authorities within 30 days.
