Vietnam’s Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs has proposed a nine-day break for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, spanning from January 25 to February 2, 2025.
The Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, is the biggest festival in a year for Vietnamese as it is an occasion for family reunions.
The ministry is seeking feedback on the proposal from 16 ministries and agencies before submitting it to the prime minister for approval.
According to the proposal, public workers will be entitled to nine-day leave, including five days promulgated by the 2019 Labor Code and the other four on the weekend.
The first day of the 2025 Lunar New Year falls on January 29.
The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs also put forward two options for the National Day (September 2) holiday next year.
The first option is from Saturday, August 30, to Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The second is from Tuesday, September 3, to Wednesday, September 4, 2025.
The ministry prefers the first option, which is a four-day break.
Laborers in Vietnam are now entitled to two days off for the National Day holiday.
Next year's National Day falls on Sunday.
From 2021, Vietnam has mandated a total of 11 days off for public holidays, including five days for the Lunar New Year holiday, two days for the National Day holiday, and one day each for the New Year holiday, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, the Reunification Day, and the International Workers' Day.
Apart from these holidays, foreign laborers in Vietnam are permitted to have one day off for their home country's National Day.
