Saigon Port Joint Stock Company is studying and will propose developing a wharf for international passenger ships at a cost of VND624.9 billion (US$25.4 million) at the Nha Rong-Khanh Hoi Port in District 4.
The company has reported the project studying process to the Ministry of Transport and the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.
The wharf, covering over 68,600 square meters, will be able to receive international passenger and cruise ships with a capacity of 1,000 passengers each.
An operation and management building, a square, and a parking lot will also be constructed.
The project is scheduled for execution between 2025 and 2027, with 30 percent of the required investment funded by the investor and the remaining 70 percent sourced through bank loans and other legal channels.
Saigon Port Joint Stock Company announced it would submit the proposal to the municipal government for review and approval this quarter.
The project will help attract more tourists to the city aboard cruise ships while creating a new entertainment space for locals and tourists alike, according to the company.
The Nha Rong-Khanh Hoi Port regularly receives large international cruise ships, including the 210-meter Seabourn Encore, the 181-meter Azamara Onward, and the 186-meter Silversea Cruises.
The port also accommodates domestic vessels and restaurant ships.
A planned new wharf at Nha Rong-Khanh Hoi Port will cater to passengers traveling via inland waterway transport and high-speed boats to Vung Tau City and Con Dao Island in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
