Authorities in Da Nang City, central Vietnam have adopted various solutions to rearrange traffic surrounding Han Market, a renowned tourist destination, as tourist numbers peak.
The market area in Hai Chau District faces mounting pressure as the number of travelers to Da Nang has exceeded the pre-COVID-19 period visits.
Earlier this year, Da Nang began regulating traffic surrounding the market to ensure the safety of visitors.
The Hai Chau administration has revamped the area around the market, turning nearby streets into one-way routes and transforming vacant land into parking zones for vendors and visitors.
This move was meant to clear the sidewalks, making more space available to tourists.

The market is situated in the city center, so the volume of traffic is huge. Local vendors have encroached on sidewalks, leaving little space for pedestrians, especially international tourists.
Nguyen Duc Thien, a tour guide, said his company is using employees to help tourists cross the roads surrounding the Han Market area.
Navigating the bustling streets of Vietnam can be a daunting task for many foreigners, Thien said, adding that the challenge intensifies near markets where crowded conditions and encroached sidewalks add to the pressure.

The municipal Department of Transport will install traffic signal systems for pedestrians on Bach Dang and Nguyen Thai Hoc Streets, which surround the market, to ensure pedestrian safety.
The department has also installed cameras in the market area and adjusted traffic along Bach Dang and Tran Phu Streets.
The Da Nang People’s Committee has recently charged the municipal Department of Tourism with work with travel companies and associations, asking them to pick up and drop off tourists at the market and linger for no more than five minutes.
They were also required to stagger tours to the market to prevent a large number of tourists from arriving at the same time.

In January-September, the central city’s tourism thrived, as it welcomed 8.7 million tourist arrivals, skyrocketing 33.3 percent year on year.
The total number of international and domestic visitors reached 3.2 million and 5.5 million, surging 30.6 and 34.9 percent, respectively.
International tourists were mainly from South Korea, Japan, India, Southeast Asia, and the U.S., according to the municipal statistics office.
Da Nang is expected to welcome more than 10 million tourists this year, including over four million international travelers, surpassing the record in 2019 when the city serviced 8.7 million tourists, including 3.5 million foreign guests.
