Approximately 40,800 deaths a year -- about 7.5 percent of the total in Vietnam -- are attributed to alcohol use, according to the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health.

In Vietnam, about 548,000 deaths each year result from various diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, mental disorders, digestive diseases, and infections.

Alcohol is directly responsible for at least 30 diseases and injuries and indirectly contributes to over 200 others.

This results in about 7.5 percent of deaths in the country, roughly 40,800 annually.

Vietnam currently ranks second in Southeast Asia and third in Asia for per capita alcohol consumption.

Notably, the prevalence of harmful drinking has increased over the years, particularly among men, with one in three males consuming alcohol at hazardous levels.

Even more alarming is the trend of younger individuals, especially students, beginning to down alcoholic beverages.

This not only negatively affects personal health but also significantly impacts social security, contributing to rising issues such as violence and traffic accidents.
