Typhoon Yinxing entered the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea in the early hours of Friday, making it the seventh storm to hit the maritime area in 2024, said the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting the same day.
By 7:00 am on Friday, the storm was centered in the eastern waters of the northern part of the maritime area, packing maximum sustained winds of 150-166 kilometers per hour near its center.
Typhoon Yinxing was traveling westward at a speed of approximately 15 kph.
The national weather agency added the typhoon would primarily maintain a westward direction toward the northern part of Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago after entering the East Vietnam Sea.
Subsequently, it could change its direction to the southwest toward the waters of the central Vietnamese provinces.
The typhoon is expected to weaken as it approaches Hoang Sa and the waters of central Vietnam.
The national weather agency highlighted a possibility of typhoon Yinxing downgrading into a tropical depression after arriving inland.
By 7:00 am on Saturday, the storm could be spotted some 510 kilometers northeast of Hoang Sa, moving westward at 15-20 kph.
By 7:00 am on Sunday, it will likely march west-northwest at 10-15 kph and gradually weaken, with its center possibly located around 270 kilometers north-northeast of Hoang Sa.
Typhoon Yinxing is anticipated to move more slowly at 5-10 kph and weaken further as of 7:00 am on Monday next week, by which it could be spotted some 130 kilometers north of Hoang Sa.
Due to the influence of the typhoon, the eastern waters in the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea will experience strong winds, gusts, high waves of 4-6 meters, and rough seas.
All vessels operating in these hazardous zones are at risk of enduring thunderstorms, strong winds, and large waves.
