A taxi driver in Da Nang City, central Vietnam has been disciplined for forcing a passenger out of his car during an argument, charging for the ride, and sending abusive text messages afterward.
Pham The Cuong, deputy director of Da Nang Taxi Enterprise, a subsidiary of Thuan Phuoc Phat Joint Stock Company, on Thursday confirmed the penalties against cabbie D.D.Ch. for violating the company’s policies and negatively affecting customer experience.
Earlier, on Tuesday night, Ch. received a booking to pick up passenger N.T.B. at the domestic terminal of Da Nang International Airport and transport B. to Ly Tu Trong Street in Hai Chau District.
Prior to the pickup, Ch. repeatedly called the passenger, urging him to reach Column No. 9 at the terminal.
When the passenger got in the car, he elaborated it took time to walk from the arrival gate to the pickup point.
The driver became angry and immediately canceled the trip, ordered the passenger to leave the vehicle and falsely marked the ride as 'completed,' resulting in the fare being charged to the passenger’s VNPAY-linked account.
On Wednesday morning, the driver sent multiple text messages cursing the passenger.
Following complaints from the passenger and the VNPAY e-wallet service provider, Da Nang Taxi Enterprise took disciplinary measures against driver Ch. on Wednesday afternoon.
The penalties included a warning, a fine of VND2 million (US$78.7), a 10-day suspension, a ban from accessing company-assigned passenger pickup points, and a suspension of app access until further notice.
The company will immediately terminate the contract with him if he commits further violations over the next six months.
