-- Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam held phone talks with Secretary-General of the ruling People’s Action Party and Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong on Friday afternoon, during which the Vietnamese Party chief suggested the two countries further strengthen political trust through meetings and exchanges of all-level delegations.

Society

-- The southern hydrometeorological agency forecasts that on Monday and Tuesday, the south and Ho Chi Minh City will experience worsening weather, with rain and heavy downpours in many areas due to a depression.

-- The Hanoi Food Safety Agency reported on Friday that two people died and 15 were hospitalized after attending a conference party in Long Bien District the day before. A group of attendees drank alcohol brought from outside the venue and continued partying at another restaurant after the event, while the event organizer held a valid business license, met food safety standards, and provided proof of the food’s origin.

-- The Hanoi Department of Public Security, in coordination with Interpol, has issued an international wanted notice for Vietnamese finance influencer Le Khac Ngo, known on social media as Mr. Hunter, in connection with a securities investment fraud case.

-- Da Nang City announced on Friday a plan to invest in the construction of five floodwater control gates at the area covering Da Nang International Airport in 2025 to prevent flooding.

-- Google announced on Friday the launch of the government app verification feature in Vietnam, developed in collaboration with the Authority of Information Security and the Ministry of Information and Communications to enhance anti-fraud and online safety.

Business

-- FDI disbursement in Vietnam reached an estimated US$21.68 billion in January-November, a 7.1-percent increase from the same period last year, marking the third consecutive year the country has surpassed $20 billion, according to HSBC.

-- Vietnam will face Myanamr in their final match of the 2024 ASEAN Championship group stage at 8:00 pm (Vietnam time) on Saturday in Phu Tho Province, northern Vietnam. 

-- Vietnamese teenage table tennis players Do Le Van Chi and Do Le Van Linh won the gold medal in the U17 girls’ doubles at the U.S. Open Table Tennis Championships on Saturday morning (Vietnam time), defeating the U.S. duo Emily Quan and Abigail Yu 3-2.
