Vietnamese dairy producer Nutifood has proposed April 26, 2025 as the date for the groundbreaking ceremony for a pedestrian bridge spanning the Saigon River, with a price tag of nearly VND997 billion (US$39 million).
The proposal was already submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the People's Committee, and the Department of Transport.
The project, initiated and fully funded by Nutifood, is set to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification on April 30, 2025.
Over the past months, Nutifood has completed critical steps, including feasibility studies, construction design approvals, permits, and contractor selection, to ensure the project aligns with directives from city authorities.
This river-crossing footbridge will connect Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1 to a riverside park near Nguyen Thien Thanh Street in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thu Duc City.
The bridge is about 261 meters long, including its cable-stayed main span stretching 187 meters long, and has a steel girder design.
Inspired by the shape of a floating nipa palm leaf, the bridge represents a blend of modern design and cultural heritage, providing a friendly, safe, and accessible public space for residents and visitors.
The bridge is meant to complement the city’s transportation network, supporting socio-economic development.
