Traffic police in Tuyen Quang Province, northern Vietnam have booked and fined a trailer truck driver for obstructing a convoy of priority vehicles carrying on-duty officials on a national highway, an officer said on Friday.
At around 3:40 pm on Thursday, a trailer truck pulling a semi-trailer was traveling on National Highway 2 from Tuyen Quang Province to neighboring Ha Giang Province.
The trailer truck encountered a convoy led by on-duty police officers escorting a group of top officials running from Ha Giang to Tuyen Quang, but the trailer truck driver caused obstruction and posed a danger to the priority convoy.
After the incident, the driver was identified as V.D.G., a 38-year-old resident of Hung Yen Province, and was summoned for questioning.
He admitted that while traveling on the road, he encountered a convoy of vehicles, including three police cars with flashing lights signaling their priority status.
Despite the curved and slippery road conditions due to rain, the driver did not reduce speed or stop.
As a result, when he abruptly braked, the truck’s cargo section slid into the path of the priority vehicles.
The driver faced a fine of VND6-8 million (US$237-316) and had four points deducted from his driver’s license for the incident.
