With a total investment of over VND300 million (US$11,700), the Israeli Embassy in Vietnam in collaboration with authorities in northern Lao Cai Province restored and upgraded two local schools that were severely affected by typhoon Yagi.
Children at Na Lac and Tan Tien preschools, both part of Trinh Tuong Preschool and Elementary School in Bat Xat District, received newly renovated classrooms on Wednesday.
The initiative is part of a post-disaster school reconstruction in Lao Cai project, supported by the Israeli Embassy.
At Na Lac Preschool, home to 90 students, the storm had caused severe roof damage and prolonged leaks.
Thanks to the project, the school’s roof was completely repaired, and a new restroom was built, ensuring a cleaner and safer learning environment.

Meanwhile, at Tan Tien Preschool and Elementary School, a brand-new kitchen was constructed to replace the old, storm-damaged facility.
Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, principal of Trinh Tuong Preschool and Elementary School, expressed gratitude for the embassy’s support, saying the new kitchen and restrooms provided much-needed relief.
“Our students now have a safer and more comfortable school, a meaningful gift during these challenging times,” she said.
Typhoon Yagi made landfall in northern Vietnam in early September last year, killing more than 290 people and damaging 237,000 homes.
It is the most powerful storm to have entered the East Vietnam Sea over the past 30 years and the worst typhoon to have hit Vietnam in the last 70 years.
