Host Vietnam lost 3-2 today to Tottenham after an own goal in the last round of the international U-19 Nutifood Cup organized in Ho Chi Minh City from January 6-10.
Fourteen minutes into the game, U-19 Tottenham midfielder Joshua received the ball on the right wing, dribbled past two Vietnamese players, and sped up towards the corner before returning the ball back to Daniel Akindayini in a suitable position in the box to cushion the opening goal for the visiting team.
In the 59th minute, Vietnam leveled it 1-1 after an error of the defense of the English side. A Tottenham defender shot the ball into the legs of Vietnamese defender Le Van Son who made one more step to make a close range blast into the English goal frame.
Right in the following minute, Vietnam took the 2-1 lead when Duc Huy escaped an offside trap and defeated English goalkeeper McGee.
But their joy didn’t last long when Tottenham drew it 2-2 from a penalty kick by the midfielder Filip Lesniak.
At the 70th minute, Tottenham led 3-2. Joshua launched an attack along the left wing before passing the flying ball into the Vietnam box where Vietnamese defender Dong Trieu scored an own goal in an attempt to clear the ball.
Both teams displayed an interesting open game by exchanging waves of attacks in both wings and in the midfield.
In the two previous rounds of the four-team U-19 Nutifood Cup, Vietnam was beaten 1-2 by AS Roma and 0-7 by Japan.
