Storm Yinxing is forecast to move westward at a maximum speed of 20 kilometers per hour to enter the East Vietnam Sea at 1:00 pm on Friday with sustained winds at level 14, or up to 166 kph, and gusts reaching level 17, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Yinxing will likely become the seventh storm to strike the East Vietnam Sea this year.
At 1:00 pm on Thursday, the eye of the storm was spotted in the waters northeast of the Philippines' Luzon Island, with the strongest winds of 183 kph, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The storm was moving west-northwest with a velocity of 10-15 kph on Thursday afternoon.
It is likely to move westward at a maximum speed of 20 kph on Friday.
The storm could be located in the waters north of the East Vietnam Sea at 1:00 pm on Friday.
Yinxing is expected to weaken, with strong winds reaching up to 133 kph, and will be located 430 kilometers northeast of Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago by 1:00 pm on Saturday.
By 1:00 pm on Sunday, the eye of the storm may be approximately 300 kilometers from the archipelago, moving westward at a speed of 10 kph.
In the next 72-120 hours, the storm is likely to change its direction to move southwest toward the waters off the central region at a maximum speed of 15 kilometers, but it will gradually downgrade.
Due to the impact of the storm, the coast along the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea is experiencing strong winds and high waves.
The national weather center has warned ships operating in the affected waters of thunderstorms, powerful winds and waves, and has urged them to take shelter.
