The second season of a professional go-cart race in Vietnam will be open to both amateurs and professionals this month, heard a press conference on Thursday.
A go-kart, also written as go-cart, is a type of open-wheel car or quadracycle.
Go-karts come in all shapes and forms, from motorless models to high-powered racing machines, according to Wikipedia.
Professional kart racing is commonly a stepping stone for young drivers that allow them to get race track experience and then move into higher ranks of motorsports, with the biggest and most popular competition being Formula One.
The second season of Vietnam’s professional go-kart race is scheduled for November 22 at the Dai Nam racetrack in southern Binh Duong Province under the umbrella of Formula Racing Vietnam (FRV).
There will be two categories in the race – the first for amateurs, who are 18 years old or older, and the second for professional racers.
The country’s first professional go-kart race took place in May 2019.
Speaking at Thursday’s press conference, Vo Kim Thanh, deputy director of the Dai Nam racetrack, said that the number of participants in go-kart races in Vietnam currently remains modest, unlike other motorsport games.
As a go-kart race organizer, Thanh expressed hope that Vietnamese racers will have their names honored in international motorsport competitions, including even the Formula One, in the future.
Vietnam’s first Formula One grand prix has been officially canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will not be held in 2021 either due to local issues, organizers announced on October 16.
