The first-ever nighttime music run to be held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, southern Vietnam is scheduled for mid-April.
The VPBank Can Tho Music Night Run 2024 will be hosted by Can Tho’s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department; lender VPBank; and professional race organizer Nexus Sport Events on April 13.
The organizers have announced that the tournament will debut as a sports-music festival, integrating running, singing, dancing, and music, along with various other activities.
The event’s route will be dotted with water stations, each featuring a street music stage where bands will perform continuously throughout the race.
At the finish line, the largest stage will host renowned singers and bands.
Additionally, food stalls and spaces showcasing local culture will spotlight the riverine beauty of Can Tho City, which is located about 170km from Ho Chi Minh City and renowned for landmarks like Ninh Kieu Wharf and Cai Rang floating market.
Up to 5,000 participants are expected to join the race’s three main categories, which include 5km, 10km, and 21km, alongside a 1.1km route for children.
The organizers intend to add a full marathon category for the event’s second edition in 2025 in order to draw interest from elite runners from both ouside and inside Vietnam.
They also aim for the annual run to become a prominent feature of Can Tho’s tourism agenda, boosting the city’s appeal to both tourists and businesses in the years to come.
