Vietnamese athlete bags gold medal at Canoe Sprint Asian Championship

Vietnamese female canoeist Diep Thi Huong on Friday won a gold medal in the women's C1 500m final at the 2024 Canoe Sprint Asian Championship.
Despite having to fiercely compete against tough opponents from Kazakhstan, India, Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia, Huong managed to stage a good performance and cross the finish line in 2 minutes 18.178 seconds.
Kisseleva Ulyana from Kazakhstan came second in the race in 2 minutes 26.645 seconds.

This is also a Paris 2024 Olympic qualifying event held in Japan between Thursday and Sunday this week.
Vietnam sent four athletes to Tokyo to compete in four categories. Nguyen Thi Huong in the C1 200m and Nguyen Hong Thai - Nguyen Thi Huong in the C2 500 are in contention for Paris 2024 quotas.
Meanwhile, Diep Thi Huong and Duong Anh Duc will compete in non-Olympic categories to hunt for medals.
This means that the gold medalist Diep Thi Huong could not earn a place at the Paris Games.
Until now, seven Vietnamese athletes have qualified for the Paris Games, scheduled for July 26 to August 11, including boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh, cyclist Nguyen Thi That, weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, markswomen Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, and badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh.
The Southeast Asian country looks to earn 12-15 Paris 2024 spots.
