The Discipline Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation on Wednesday imposed an indefinite suspension on five players of Hong Linh Ha Tinh Football Club who were recently detained by police officers in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam as part of an investigation into drug-related activities.
The five players, including goalkeeper Duong Quang Tuan, center-back Nguyen Ngoc Thang, and midfielders Dinh Thanh Trung, Nguyen Van Truong, and Nguyen Trung Hoc, are banned from playing in national football tournaments controlled by the VFF.
They are currently in police custody as part of an investigation into drug-related activities.
Last Saturday, police in Ha Tinh Province conducted a raid on a local hotel where the five players were found reveling alongside a group under suspicion for drug-related activities.
Hong Linh Ha Tinh Football Club have yet to make an official announcement.
The club played without the five suspended players against MerryLand Quy Nhon Binh Dinh FC on Wednesday afternoon in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh province, central Vietnam, where they lost 0-2.
Nguyen Minh Ngoc, head of the organizer of the top-flight V.League 1, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the league had asked Hong Linh Ha Tinh Football Club to report the case.
Among the five players, Dinh Thanh Trung, a member of the Vietnamese national football team from 2010 to 2018, won the Vietnam Golden Ball in 2017.
Nguyen Ngoc Thang recently joined the U23 Vietnam team in the quarterfinals of the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024 in Qatar last month.
Nguyen Trung Hoc is the captain of Hong Linh Ha Tinh and has played in all 16 of their matchups this season.
