Vietnamese archer Le Quoc Phong on Monday night secured a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics after advancing to the semifinals of the men’s individual recurve event at the Antalya 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Turkey, the final Olympic qualification tournament.

Phong defeated Bangladesh’s Ram Krishna 6-2 in the quarterfinals but fell 1-7 to Amirkhon Sadikov from Uzbekistan in the semifinals.

Ultimately, Phong finished fifth in the qualification round, ensuring Vietnam achieved its target of securing all 12 spots for the Paris Games, scheduled from July 26 to August 11.

The 11 other Vietnamese athletes who have qualified for Paris are swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, cyclist Nguyen Thi That, markswomen Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen, boxers Vo Thi Kim Anh and Ha Thi Linh, weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong, rower Pham Thi Hue, and badminton players Le Duc Phat, and Nguyen Thuy Linh.

Vietnamese women’s archery still stands a chance to earn spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics at the Antalya 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup, with two team spots available for six athletes, as well as individual qualifying tickets.
