Vietnamese archer Do Thi Anh Nguyet on Wednesday secured a direct berth at the Paris 2024 Olympics based on her new position in the world rankings updated recently.
Nguyet earned one of the final five archery spots alongside archers from Romania, Israel, Denmark, and Slovenia.
An additional slot became available in the women’s individual recurve event due to an athlete withdrawing for overlapping commitments with another competition.
This marks Nguyet’s second consecutive Summer Olympics, following Tokyo 2020.
She currently holds the top position among female archers in Vietnam in the individual recurve category, ranked 72nd worldwide as per an update on Monday.
In addition to competing in individual events, Nguyet will partner with Le Quoc Phong, who has already qualified for Paris, in the mixed category.
Nguyet’s qualification has increased Vietnam’s number of Olympic qualifiers to 14, surpassing its goal of securing 12 spots for the Paris Games by two.
Among the other 13 Vietnamese qualifiers are swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, cyclist Nguyen Thi That, markswomen Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen, boxers Vo Thi Kim Anh and Ha Thi Linh, weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong, rower Pham Thi Hue, badminton players Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Thuy Linh, archer Le Quoc Phong, and judoka Hoang Thi Tinh.
Vietnam awaits decisions from the Olympic organizing committee regarding special spots for Tran Thi Nhi Yen in athletics and Vo Thi My Tien or Nguyen Thuy Hien in swimming.
The announcement is scheduled for early next month, just days before the Olympics take place from July 26 to August 11.
