Cyclist Luu Van Thanh brought home a silver medal for Vietnam at the 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Thailand on Thursday.
Thanh, along with Hoang Hai Nam, Le Van Dong, Pham Van Hau, and Nguyen Van Thang, competed in the men’s master road race for the 50-54 age group, where he secured a silver medal, marking the sixth medal for Vietnam’s cycling team in the tournament.
Previously, Hoang Hai Nam and To Hoang Khanh Lan each earned a gold medal, while Pham Minh Nhan, Truong Thi Quynh, and Hoang Thi Hang claimed bronze.
Earlier on Thursday, four cyclists -- Nguyen Dan Binh, Phung Quoc Ha, Dang Van Phap, and Pham Anh Hao -- competed in the men’s juniors road race, but none brought home medals.
Additionally, cyclist Nguyen Dan Binh was involved in a collision during the race, injuring his shoulder and ankle, which forced him to withdraw from the competition.
The Vietnamese delegation at the 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championships includes five female cyclists, two male cyclists, and 10 young riders.
The tournament, which runs from February 7 to 16 in Thailand, features nearly 500 cyclists, including professional national teams, U23 and U18 youth teams, and senior athletes competing in the master events.
As part of the Union Cycliste Internationale’s competition system, the tournament also serves as preparation for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
The Vietnamese cycling team faced significant challenges during the tournament, as their bikes and equipment were destroyed in a fire.
Many athletes had to use bikes borrowed from the host country or other delegations.
In recent days, additional bicycles have been sent from Vietnam to support the team.
