Injured Nguyen Xuan Son wins 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Best Foreign Player award on crutches

Striker Nguyen Xuan Son, still recovering from a leg injury, made a determined appearance at the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Gala in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday evening to accept his Best Foreign Player award.
Held at Ben Thanh Theater, the event saw Xuan Son arrive on crutches alongside his wife, Marcele Seippel.
The naturalized striker suffered a broken bone during the 2024 ASEAN Championship in Thailand this January, requiring surgery that will keep him sidelined until September 2025.

Brazilian-born Xuan Son claimed the Best Foreign Player honor for the second consecutive year, following his 2023 win.
The award comes just months after he received Vietnamese citizenship in September 2024.

Xuan Son’s on-field performances were exceptional in 2024.
He scored seven goals in four matches at the ASEAN Championship, earning the Best Player title, and netted 31 goals in the 2023-24 V.League 1 season, bringing his total for the year to 40 goals.
His presence at the gala despite his ongoing recovery was a testament to his dedication and impact on Vietnamese football.
