The Da Nang International Marathon 2025 will officially kick off in Da Nang City on Sunday, attracting a record number of international participants from 72 countries and territories.
This year’s competition will feature three adult race distances—42km marathon, 21km half marathon, and a 5km race—along with two Ronny Dash events for children, 500m and 1.5km, with more than 7,000 athletes expected.
Of that, about 3,000 international runners from 72 countries and territories marks a 42-percent increase from 2024 and comprises 41 percent of total participants.
This sets a record for international participation and underscores Da Nang’s status as a premier sports and tourism destination.
The marathon will feature top competitors such as Kenya’s Shadrack Kipkemboi, Japan’s Issel Kawabata, and Morocco’s Otmane Menbar, alongside leading Vietnamese athletes Pham Ngoc Phan, Huynh Anh Khoi, Le Tan Hi, Le Minh Tuan, and Pham Thi Binh.
In the 21km half marathon, Kenyan Eric Kiplimo Mosbei, England’s James Drakeford, and Malaysia’s Vimal Govendarajoo will compete with Vietnamese runners like Doan Thi Oanh, Nguyen Khanh Ly, and Thai Thi Kim Ngan.
The event also attracts international running clubs and groups from Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines, who joined local runners in a 5km Meet-up Run on Friday afternoon.
Runners will race along scenic routes including My Khe Beach, Han River, and Son Tra Peninsula, offering a unique sports and tourism experience.
This year’s event is set to provide thrilling competition and foster global connections within the running community.
