Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Culture and Sports is orchestrating an unprecedented drone light show, aiming to set a national record, as part of a series of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's Reunification Day (April 30) and the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19).

The department has recently submitted a comprehensive plan to the municipal administration, highlighting the drone performance as a central feature.

The proposal outlines deploying 10,500 drones over the Saigon River, illuminating the skies above both Thu Duc City – a district-level unit under Ho Chi Minh – and District 1 at 8:40 pm on April 30.

If approved, this display will set a national record for the highest number of drones used simultaneously in a single show.

Complementing the drone display, the city plans to host 15-minute artistic fireworks performances at 30 locations across the city, starting at 9:00 pm on the same evening.

The department also proposes organizing diverse art and cultural programs on April 29 and on every Saturday from April 19 to May 31, between 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm.

These programs aim to cater to a wide audience across various venues, including the city's People's Committee headquarters, Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, the Municipal Theater, Bach Dang Park, Thu Duc City, and canals traversing Districts 1, 4, 5, 6, and 8.

The planned performances encompass a broad spectrum of artistic expressions. Attendees can look forward to symphony orchestras, traditional dance and music shows, and hat boi (classical theater).

Notably, lion-dragon dances and special traditional music performances are slated to occur at the stage in front of President Ho Chi Minh's statue in District 1. Concurrently, contemporary art programs featuring puppetry, circus acts, street performances, and traditional martial arts fused with music will be staged in front of the Sunwah building on Nguyen Hue Street.

Adding to the festive ambiance, a lantern boat parade is on the agenda. This parade will feature six speedboats from the Thanh Da Sports Club leading a flotilla of lantern-adorned boats from various district cultural and sports centers.

The procession is expected to navigate through Districts 1, 4, 5, 6, and 8, with traditional southern Vietnamese music performances enhancing the riverine spectacle.

Additional activities include a tourist boat parade and water sports demonstrations such as sailing, jet-powered flights, flyboarding, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and paragliding.

Furthermore, on the aforementioned Saturday evenings, there will be artistic fireworks displays and drone shows each featuring between 1,000 and 2,000 devices.
