An array of contemporary artworks by emerging artists from all over the world is being exhibited at a new art space located in a pine forest in northern Vietnam.

The exhibition is organized to celebrate the launch of Flamingo Contemporary Art Museum, a space dedicated to contemporary art located in Flamingo Dai Lai Resort in Vinh Phuc Province.

This is the first private art museum established in the northern province, said Duong Quang Ung, deputy director of the Vinh Phuc Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Prior to its official launch, the Flamingo Contemporary Art Museum was already known for hosting multiple outdoor art exhibitions.

The eccentric design of its gallery rooms, which are assembled from discarded containers and flamboyantly colored, also helped boost its popularity as a tourist attraction.

The gallery rooms are located at the center of the museum premise, serving as the exhibition, creative and collaborative space for residing artists.

It is currently accommodating 56 sculpture works of various materials, including rock, wood, and stainless steel, besides over 70 paintings.

The repertoire of artworks was accumulated through five iterations of art in the forest, an annual not-for-profit event held at the Flamingo Dai Lai Resort and funded by the Flamingo Group.

Launched in 2015, the project has made hundreds of artworks more accessible to the public, including pieces from Vietnamese, Canadian, American, Japan, Nepalese, Italian, Thai, Korean, Singaporean, and Spanish artists, among others.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, Vu Hong Nguyen, director, co-founder, and curator of the museum, said the space offers free entry to all visitors.

Nguyen also revealed plans to organize more iterations of art in the forest in the future, as a diverse and prolific collection obtained from the events will allow the museum to finance itself using entrance fees in five years’ time.

The space is looking to organize art tours for students as well.

“We would like to contribute to the progress of art education in Vietnam, for the future generations of Vietnam should appreciate art and go to art spaces as often as going to the cinema or listen to music,” Nguyen declared.
