The number of international visitors to Vietnam in March increased by 41.4 percent compared to February and by 2.2 times year on year, the Vietnam News Agency quoted the General Statistics Office as reporting on Tuesday.

During the first quarter of 2022, Vietnam welcomed nearly 91,000 international visitors, an 89.1 percent annual rise.

Visitors arriving by air accounted for nearly 90.5 percent of international arrivals to Vietnam during this period, up 165.2 percent.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first quarter of 2022 jumped by 1.2 percent, while tourism revenue climbed 1.9 percent from the same period last year.

Vietnam fully reopened international tourism on March 15, a move which paved the way for both inbound and outbound tourists to travel to and from the country by air, road, rail, and sea.

Conditions and regulations on immigration and health for international tourists were also relaxed.

Vietnam's unilateral visa exemption policy for 13 countries was already restored, along with the resumption of the immigration policy it had in place before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nguyen Trung Khanh, head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, stressed that reopening the country to international visitors was an important milestone for Vietnam's tourism industry.

The move will not only help boost post-pandemic economic recovery but also affirm that Vietnam is a safe and friendly destination, Khanh elaborated.

Tourism activities in many localities are once again thriving thanks to the many promotional campaigns launched since March 15 to attract visitors.

On March 26, the National Tourism Year 2022, themed ‘Quang Nam – The Green Destination,’ kicked off in Hoi An City, a popular tourist destination in central Quang Nam Province.

The event is the country's largest annual tourism event and is co-organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Quang Nam People's Committee.

The National Tourism Year 2022 was also announced at the Expo 2020 Dubai, attracting serious attention from potential international visitors.

Vietnam aims to serve 65 million tourists, including five million international visitors and 60 million domestic travelers, in 2022.
