Miss Intercontinental 2022 Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc, ambassador for the 17th International Travel Expo - Ho Chi Minh City, and four other international beauty queens, including Miss International 2019, Miss World Myanmar 2019, Miss World Cambodia 2020, and Miss Grand Laos 2023, explored cuisine and tourist sites in the southern metropolis’ Can Gio District on Friday.

The five beauty queens from Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar traveled to Thieng Lieng Hamlet in Thanh An Island Commune to participate in local tourism activities.

Their trip was made within the framework of the travel expo, which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday morning and wrapped up on Saturday.

The travel trade fair brought together senior officials from the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, as well as 3,500 delegates from 45 provinces and cities across Vietnam, and 42 other countries and regions.

The five beauty queens donned casual clothes and cycled for sightseeing around the island commune, which is one of Ho Chi Minh City’s special sites.

Though many people there are still facing multiple difficulties, the hamlet is endowed with rich ecotourism potential.

The five not only learned about cultural features but also savored various specialties in the hamlet, including suong sam, a kind of dessert made from tiliacora triandra leaves, coconut ice cream, and some southern folk cakes.

They also tried working as salt farmers to experience a daily job of residents in the peaceful coastal area.

As the ambassador for this year’s international travel expo, Miss Bao Ngoc expects to contribute to introducing Vietnam’s land, people, and culture to international friends.

The gala night was highlighted by a host of Vietnamese art performances and other cultural activities.

These international queens said that they love Vietnamese food, especially pho; banh mi, which is a Vietnamese baguette filled with paste, cold cuts, herbs, cucumber, chili sauce and pickles; and bun cha, or rice noodles with grilled pork and meatballs.

Besides, the Lao queen revealed that she would return to Vietnam in October to sit in on Miss Grand International 2023.
