The innovative approach of bait-free fishing in Phu Quoc Island City off Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam has been gaining significant popularity among both domestic and foreign tourists, as it offers a unique and sustainable fishing experience.

Le Xuan Thuy, proprietor of the Xuan Thuy raft house situated in Rach Vem Hamlet, Ganh Dau Commune, Phu Quoc City, on Saturday said that Rach Vem is presently immersed in its most enchanting season of the year, featuring crystal-clear azure waters and pristine white sands that gracefully caress the picturesque Ham Rong cape on the island.

“Rach Vem boasts the breathtaking combination of pristine sea and lush forests,” Thuy said.

“The water is a stunning shade of clear blue, adorned with tape grass on the seabed, creating a natural haven for fish.”

Therefore, at this juncture, both domestic and international tourists are increasingly drawn to Rach Vem, seeking enjoyment in various activities, including casting nets to catch fish, swimming, capturing sunset photos, and, notably, participating in the unique experience of bait-free fishing.

This fishing technique involves the use of a fishing rod with five hooks on the line, each equipped with small, fluorescent feathers.

Once submerged in the water, these feathers emit an enticing glow, effectively attracting fish to bite the hooks.

“Year after year, thousands of local and international tourists flock to this idyllic destination to revel in its offerings,” Thuy said.

“Fishing has become a beloved activity among these tourists, thanks to its accessibility and the enriching experience it provides."

Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung, a visitor from the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, who claimed that she is no stranger to fishing, said bait-free fishing in Phu Quoc has brought a new and intriguing dimension to her fishing experiences.

She has found herself catching an impressive haul of three to four fish at a time.

“Phu Quoc offers a delightful array of rustic tourism experiences,” Nhung said.

“Today, we’ve managed to secure a kilogram of fish.

“I plan to take these back to the raft house, where I’ll either grill them or prepare a delectable sour hotpot to enjoy with my family.”
