A boy attempted to cycle nearly 500 kilometers from Phu Yen Province in south-central Vietnam to Binh Duong Province to meet his mom as he missed the mother, who did not return home during the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival because she had to work in Binh Duong Province, a police officer said on Saturday.
Police in Phu Yen found 10-year-old Vo Nguyen Thai Bao, who resides in Dong Hoa Town in the province, riding a bicycle along National Highway 29, about 10 kilometers from his house, on Friday night.
Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Tran Khac Quang, head of the police agency in the town, said that Ho Thi Tuyet, a 55-year-old resident of Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, reported at 5:00 pm the same day that her grandchild had gone missing.
As such, many police officers were quickly mobilized for search efforts.
Bao was discovered cycling along National Highway 29 in Hoa Hiep Nam Ward at 6:40 pm on the same day.

The boy expressed his longing for his mother, who had chosen to stay in the distant southern province for work instead of returning home for the Tet celebrations, which took place from February 8 to 14.
Consequently, driven by the desire to be with her, the boy decided to embark on a cycling journey from his hometown to Binh Duong to reunite with his mother.
He resorted to his grandmother’s little attention to venture out on Friday afternoon.
Nguyen Van Hong, vice-chairman of the Dong Hoa People’s Committee, affirmed that the town's administration is committed to assisting Bao in reuniting with his mother.
The administration is collaborating with relevant units to facilitate this process.
The local social affairs division has been directed by the administration to provide financial support to Bao and his family, ensuring the smooth running of their daily activities and supporting his education, Hong stated.
