The 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival commenced on Thursday evening at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 and will feature a wide array of activities and contests throughout its 10-day run.

On its opening night, models, artists, and participants showcased 15 new collections of ‘ao dai’ – Vietnam’s traditional long gown – which had been produced by renowned designers.

They strutted down the catwalk to a song specially composed for the event.

In addition, beauty queens donned national costume designs that had previously been introduced at international beauty competitions.

At the event, the Vietnam Records Organization, known as VietKings, officially recognized the occasion by awarding it the title of 'The Longest-Running Ao Dai Festival in Vietnam.'

This prestigious acknowledgment was conferred in celebration of the event's remarkable 10th anniversary.

During his opening speech, Nguyen Van Dung, deputy chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, emphasized that the festival has become a pervasive theme in numerous events nationwide, serving as a cultural bridge between Vietnam and the world.
