Representatives of the overseas Vietnamese community will actively participate in major national celebrations next month, with 120 delegates scheduled to join a parade marking Vietnam’s 50th Reunification Day (April 30).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs recently announced a series of upcoming activities for overseas Vietnamese at a press briefing in Hanoi on Monday.
Between April 28 and 29, overseas Vietnamese will visit historical and cultural landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City, including the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Ben Duoc Memorial Temple.
On April 30, 120 overseas delegates will join the official parade, while around 200 others are expected to attend from the grandstands.
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City will honor 50 distinguished overseas Vietnamese for their contributions since the country’s reunification, said Nguyen Manh Dong, vice-chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.
Dong emphasized that these events aim to strengthen national solidarity and highlight Vietnam’s path toward prosperity.
Aside from major celebrations in Ho Chi Minh City, the committee will also co-organize a special voyage named ‘Great Solidarity,’ bringing a delegation of overseas Vietnamese to visit military personnel and local residents in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and DKI platform in the East Vietnam Sea.
The trip aims to strengthen patriotic sentiment and counter misinformation related to Vietnam's maritime sovereignty, Dong said.
Also in April, a delegation of 62 overseas Vietnamese from 20 countries and territories will attend the Hung Kings Temple Festival, one of the country’s largest cultural and religious events to commemorate its legendary founders.
They will engage in key activities including incense offerings, a tribute ceremony at the temple in northern Phu Tho Province, along with a trip to Tan Trao, a special national relic site in neighboring Tuyen Quang Province.
In further efforts to connect the overseas Vietnamese community with their homeland, the committee will also launch an event honoring the mother tongue for overseas Vietnamese, while hosting a five-year review of a national project to promote Vietnamese products abroad through the overseas community.
