Tet – Vietnam’s Lunar New Year celebration – is the country’s biggest public holiday.
While the official holiday typically lasts just four days, many extend their celebrations even over a week.
The 2025 Tet falls on January 29.
Flowers, along with traditional foods like banh chung and banh tet (sticky rice cakes) and li xi (red envelopes), are an essential part of the festivities.

Popular Tet flowers include peach blossoms, kumquats, apricot blossoms, and chrysanthemums.
Some of the most common flowers grown by Duong Son farmers for the holiday include marigolds, roses, gerbera daisies, mokara orchids, and petunias.
Chrysanthemum morifolium is one of the most sought-after flowers ahead of Tet and tends to bring in the most income for the growers.
Despite rough weather in September and the beginning of October, local farmers have been having a fruitful season.

Ly Da, the owner of a flower garden in Duong Son, plans to harvest approximately 10,000 chrysanthemum pots this season if the good weather continues.
“Chrysanthemums thrive in sunlight, so we grow them outdoors,” Da explained, adding that the plants are vulnerable to heavy rain.
Currently, Duong Son gardeners are focused on maintaining the health of their crops, taking preventive measures to protect them from pests and bad weather patterns.

Every day, dozens of workers fertilize, flower, and prune the flowers.
At night, the gardens are lit to keep the flora warm as they reach their critical growth phase.
This year, garden owners expect chrysanthemums to sell for VND5,000-6,000 (US$0.2) per plant, while larger pots of chrysanthemum morifolium can fetch several hundred thousand dong, depending on size.
