A festival featuring 100 booths with 1,000 traditional and modern dishes and delicacies from across Vietnam will take place in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho late this month.

The event, to be held at Ong De Ecotourism Village in My Khanh Commune, Phong Dien District, has a strong focus on traditional dishes and cakes that are gradually disappearing from local cuisine.

Le Hai Phuc, director of Ong De Ecotourism Village, said the event aims to contribute to preserving, developing, and honoring the value of Vietnamese cuisine in general and the southern region’s cuisine in particular.

The festival will also boast cooking contests judged by professional chefs.

The event is non-profit, with each booth provided with facilities and given VND1 million (US$41) in cash after the festival closes.

“The organizing board wants to give local artisans motivation to preserve their traditional crafts,” Phuc said.
