Chinese shot dead in front of house in central Vietnam

Thursday, November 26, 2015, 19:15 GMT+7

A Chinese man was killed by gunfire in the coastal city of Da Nang on Thursday morning, police said.

The victim was identified as Li Mu Zi, a 31-year-old Chinese national who was living with his Vietnamese wife, 24-year-old Nguyen Thi Quynh Nga, in Son Tra District.

At around 7:00 am, Li was taking his motorcycle outside when he was shot in his abdomen, causing him to collapse on the ground in front of his residence.

A man reportedly speaking Vietnamese with a northern accent arrived at a food stall near the scene about an hour before the incident, according to witnesses.

The suspect, who was wearing a blue shirt and white trousers, waited until he spotted the victim before opening fire and escaping the scene, the witnesses added.

Li was immediately taken to the Da Nang General Hospital but could not survive due to the serious injury.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after being notified to make a report of the case, carrying out an investigation and gathering information from local residents.

Investigators found a two-centimeter-long white cartridge at the scene, one meter from the victim’s motorbike, according to initial reports.

The case is still under investigation, with police officers hunting the suspect.
