Two duty-free shops located at the arrival zone inside the international terminal of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport have been brought back into service, according to the airport’s operator.
The shops will serve passengers entering Vietnam via the Ho Chi Minh City-based airport, Tan Son Nhat Airport Service Company (SASCO) has said.
The 51-sq-m and 63-sq-m stores that sell alcohols, cigarettes, confectionaries, and other products are located just behind the baggage claim area.
Under current laws, the duty-free goods purchase limit for passengers is 1.5 liters of beverages that contain more than 22% alcohol by volume, or 2 liters of beverages under 22%, and 400 cigarettes.
Passengers can also buy other products available at the stores but the maximum purchase is capped at VND5 million (US$236). Taxes are applied to purchases over this limit.
The duty-free shops in the arrival zone of the international terminal were shut down in July 2009, while those at the departure zone and the domestic terminal remain operational.
Foreigners who leave the country through Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi are also eligible to receive a 10 percent refund from the goods they have purchased in the country, under a government decree that took effect in July 2012.
