The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) will organize a drawing ceremony for the 2014 Southeast Asian Football Championship or Suzuki Cup on August 5 in Hanoi before the qualifiers of the tournament are held in October. The draw at Sheraton Hotel will involve five low-ranked teams in the region, including Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, and Timor Leste to stage the qualifying round from October 8 to 19 in Laos. Two best teams will join Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam to play in the championship co-hosted by Vietnam and Singapore from November 22 to December 20. The two semifinal matches and the finals will be organized on a home-and-away basis. At the ninth edition of the tournament in 2012, Singapore won the title after beating Thailand 3–2 on aggregate in the finals. In August 2013, Australia became a full member of the AFF, thus making it eligible to join the tournament this year. However, they choose not to take part in the competition.
