Many young people spent the three-day New Year holiday shopping for new clothes on Ho Chi Minh City’s numerous ‘fashion streets.’

Women’s fashion stores on Nguyen Trai Street in District 1 and Le Van Sy Street in District 3 are competing against one another with new collections and price discounts.

The number of customers on these streets increased sharply over the past week, especially from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm every day, according to an employee at a clothing shop on Nguyen Trai Street.

Among the shoppers were 20-year-old Nguyen Van Long and his older sister, who currently lives and works in Canada.

Long said that his sister returns to Vietnam once a year and always goes shopping at local clothing stores.

“Foreign clothes are often too big for her small body, so she always takes advantage of her vacation in Vietnam to replenish her wardrobe, as well as shop for Tet [Lunar New Year] clothes,” Long explained.

Besides new arrivals, many customers opt for second-hand items due to lower budgets.

“I have to be frugal as this year’s Tet bonus is not much,” said Le Thi Linh Chi, a 22-year-old resident of Go Vap District.
