More than 100 Indian entrepreneurs have participated in a trade and tourism promotion conference in Kien Giang Province, located in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region, to grasp cooperation and investment opportunities.

The Kien Giang administration organized the trade – tourism – investment promotion conference on Friday morning.

These participating Indian investors expected to partner with Vietnamese firms to tap various fields, mainly education, tourism, and footwear.

Kien Giang boasts charming beaches and unspoiled tourist sites, while high-end resorts on its popular Phu Quoc Island satisfy tourists, said Kamal Kathiat, director of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.

“We come here [Kien Giang] to seek tourism cooperation opportunities and strengthen business partnership between Vietnamese and Indian entrepreneurs,” Kathiat stressed.

Speaking at the conference, Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, said that Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Pune in India have much potential for investment in multiple fields.

Sethi hoped that through the conference, the firms of the two nations would foster their exchange and cooperation to ramp up two-way trade between Vietnam and India.

Nguyen Thanh Nhan, vice-chairman of the Kien Giang People’s Committee, said that the province had opened numerous air routes to many nations, including India.

Furthermore, the province is calling on local and foreign firms to invest in five main sectors, namely hi-tech agriculture; renewable and clean energy; tourism; service-education-health; and sea-based economy.

The Phu Quoc international airport receives 40-50 domestic flights daily, said the representative of the Kien Giang administration.

“Kien Giang Province has welcomed 12 delegations of Indian enterprises over the past few months. In 2022, Phu Quoc Island off the province served over 12,700 Indian tourist arrivals,” Nhan said.

He affirmed that Kien Giang always creates favorable conditions for Indian investors and international firms to do business in the province.

At the conference, the Indian Importers Chambers of Commerce and Industries signed four memoranda of understanding with Vietnamese partners in Kien Giang Province to develop footwear, tourism, education, and seafood projects.
