The location set for the planned Cho Lon night quarter, which will span 1,510 square meters near Binh Tay Market in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City, is now fairly tranquil in the evening.

Some food trucks line the front of the market each evening after merchants clean up and close their stalls and stores at 6:00 pm.

Realizing the wastefulness of emptying out the market each evening, authorities in District 6 have been encouraging vendors to continue working into the night in order to develop the local night-time economy.

The district expects the planned Cho Lon night quarter to make good use of the sidewalks on four streets surrounding Binh Tay Market, namely Nguyen Huu Than, Thap Muoi, Le Tan Ke, Tran Binh, to help spur the city’s socioeconomic and tourism growth.

Binh Tay Market, a renowned architectural relic and tourist attraction in the city, will spotlight the night quarter.

The night quarter is set to include various cultural values in Districts 5, 6, 8 and 11, and treat locals and tourists to a wide array of tourism products.

Since the district organized night-time trading operations in the areas surrounding the market, the street has become more vibrant. As planned, several food carts will occupy the sidewalk on Thap Muoi Street. Photo: Phuong Nhi / Tuoi Tre
