Sun Group, a leading real estate developer in Vietnam, has proposed expanding roadwork and building a 72-kilometer highway along the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City.

This expansion would increase the current four lanes to ten, easing congestion and promoting socio-economic development in the city and its neighbors.

The group’s proposal is included in its recent report to the Ho Chi Minh City administration, as part of its recommendations to the municipality’s master planning for public traffic by 2040 with a vision toward 2060.

As per the plan, a riverside road will have six segments with a total length of 72.8 kilometers, providing three to four lanes for traffic.

It will run alongside the river from Cu Chi District through the central area of Ho Chi Minh City to the Can Gio Bridge in the coastal district of Can Gio.

After considering this plan, Sun Group recommended the authorities increase the maximum number of lanes from eight to ten to best meet the increasing traffic demand, and ease congestion in the gateways of the most populous city and economic hub of the country.

To enhance traffic flow in the southeastern region, the group recommended adding a segment to the route that connects with Tay Ninh Province, located about 90 kilometers northwest of central Ho Chi Minh City, rather than limiting the connection to Binh Duong Province, which is about 30 kilometers away, as originally planned.

The group believes this design will not only help relieve congestion at the gateways of Ho Chi Minh City but also contribute to promoting trade and service operations while beautifying urban landscapes.

The group affirmed that this would reduce traffic pressure in all areas it passes through, enhance the interregional transportation network, and strengthen commercial, service, and tourism links between Ho Chi Minh City and its neighbors.

Sun Group also proposed building a light rail transit line along the riverside road to connect both Binh Duong and Tay Ninh, expecting to provide more transportation options for passengers while promoting environmentally friendly green transport.

In the report, the group requests approval from the administration to coordinate with relevant agencies for all necessary studies and surveys to establish specific investment projects.

Sun Group, based in Da Nang City, has been committed to covering all related expenses.
